I’ve taken on several goals in 2010. They are specific, but they’re all essentially offshoots of an overarching desire to pare down a surplus of commitments in my “free” time that don’t leave enough time for the things I value most—like my husband, family, friends, health, and creative hobbies. For someone who has a hard time saying “no” and really hates letting people down, it’s been tough. However, as the space in my head clears (and my to-do list shrinks), I’m getting more and more excited about the space I’m creating and what I’m going to do with it.
While catching up on Design*Sponge this week, I came across a link to Biz Miss’ blog and her Thing A Day Commitment. Essentially, she set out to tackle one creative project each day for 30 days. What a great idea. I immediately knew this could be something to help me get back into some of my creative passions. So, I’m going to take it on. I’m copying many of Biz Miss’ rules, so credit goes to her. Here’s how it will work:
1. Beginning tomorrow, I will do or make one creative thing per day for the next 30 days.
2. The activity type and scope does not really matter, as long as it’s creative. It can be a scrapbook page, a haiku, a design journal entry, a painting, a photograph, a new recipe, a workshop, an art exhibit… you get the idea.
3. I can copy someone else’s work for practice and new ideas, so long as I give them credit.
4. I can make something from an instruction manual or book.
5. The project does not need to be completed that day.
6. A half-hour of work on an existing project can be substituted.
7. To hold myself accountable, the project must be documented on this blog within 24 hours.
Here we go…
Sounds wonderful! I think I’ll take this on, too–but not starting tomorrow. Perhaps in April…
Sweet. I hope you will!
Enjoy, LeeAnne! I’ve definitely found my 30-day experiment to be very impactful. I bet you will, too!
Thanks! I am really enjoying your 30th Birthday Countdown. It’s fun, but it’s also so touching. Thanks for sharing so much of your self.
